Algaari is a furniture design studio based in Ahmedabad, India. We work with left-over wood from sawmills, regional wood and “found” wood to create unique, sustainable furniture and accessories.
Sofas
The appearance of each seating arrangement flows from the natural character of the wood itself. This creates objects that are contemporary and earthy in tone, with strong practical uses.
Lamps
Light, glass, metal and wood combine to create multi-functional objects, sculptural, practical, decorative, where design finds resonance in the depth of timber.
Clocks
Natural wood finds and copper march to the beat of time, and celebrate the change of seasons and elements.
Tables
The use of curved wood, made from wood finds and timber planks, and glass, allows design to showcase nature in these one of a kind tables.
Distinct & Unique
Each piece is distinct and standalone but is also designed keeping practicality in mind. Since each piece evolves around the wood it is made from, Algaari offers uniqueness. No one piece of furniture can ever be a copy. This makes it rustic, contemporary, natural, graphic, all at the same time!
Handmade
The process uses the almost forgotten handmade art of joinery, reviving and encouraging local skills and artisans. The wood is finished with natural tree oils. And the high gloss surface is achieved by hard work and elbow grease. Since Algaari is carefully handcrafted “functional art”, each piece can take up to six months to produce. But the end product is style in itself!
Multi- functional
Pieces of Algaari are almost works of art in themselves. At the same time, these are piece of furniture to be used, they are usually multi-functional and can often have at least three applications. A lamp can be a table as well as a partition. To complement the wood, metal and glass are used within each object; to add structure, form and texture. Innovative design is what makes Algaari “alag” as it promises.
Planet Conscious
All accessories are also made from natural materials, keeping the planet’s future in mind.
